What does SEO mean in Business

Why Does My Business Need It?

What is SEO?  Well, if you’re a business owner, chances are you’ve heard the term “SEO” (short for “search engine optimization”) before. But what is SEO, exactly? And why does your business need it? Keep reading to find out.

SEO is the technical process of optimizing a website for search engines like Google to achieve increased web traffic and improving the website’s overall visibility.

So, what is SEO?  In a nutshell, there’s two main types of SEO. On-page SEO and off-page SEO also referred to as technical SEO.  On-page SEO refers to all the factors you can control on your own website, such as your website’s content, title tags, meta tags, and URL structure. Off-page SEO includes everything else, such as link building, social media signals, and brand mentions.

What is SEO and How Does SEO Work?

Search engines like Google use algorithms to crawl the internet, index websites, and rank them in SERPs. Google’s algorithms are constantly evolving, but they take into account hundreds of factors when determining rankings. Some of the most important ranking factors include things like site structure, content quality, keywords, backlinks, and loading speed.

By optimizing your website for these factors, you can improve your visibility in SERPs and attract more visitors to your site. Keep in mind that SEO is an ongoing process; as Google’s algorithms change, so too must your SEO strategy.

What is SEO – Why is SEO Important?

So, what is SEO and why is it so important to your business?  There are two main reasons why SEO is so important for businesses: traffic and conversions. First and foremost, good SEO can drive more traffic to your website. The higher your website ranks in SERPs, the more likely people are to find and visit it. And as we all know, more traffic equals more potential customers.

Secondly, SEO can also help increase conversions by making it easier for people to find your website in the first place. If your target customers are searching for products or services like yours online, you want to make sure they can find your website easily. By optimizing your site for relevant keywords and giving searchers what they’re looking for, you can increase the likelihood that they’ll do business with you rather than with one of your competitors.

Why Does My Business Need SEO?

So to answer the question of what is SEO and does my business need it, there are two big reasons why your business needs SEO. The first reason is that Google uses over 200 ranking factors to determine which websites should rank first in their search results. This means that if you want your website to rank well in Google search, you need to make sure you’re doing everything right when it comes to both on-page and off-page SEO.

The second reason why your business needs SEO is because it can help you earn more website visitors. In fact, one study found that organic search results get clickthrough rates of 31% compared to only 2% for paid ads. This means that if you’re not doing SEO, you’re missing out on a lot of potential website visitors!

So, what is SEO?  SEO is a complex field with a lot of moving parts, but it’s important to understand the basics if you want to stay ahead of the curve. By optimizing your website for things like keywords, backlinks, and loading speed, you can improve your visibility in SERPs and attract more visitors (and potential customers) to your site. Keep in mind that SEO is an ongoing process; as Google’s algorithms change, so too must your approach to optimization. But if you’re willing to put in the work, you can see some serious results from your efforts!

What Is SEO FAQ’s

How Long Will It Take To Rank My Business on Google?

Well, like most answers to SEO questions: it depends.

The days of simply launching a website, optimizing a few title tags and ranking on Google in a few weeks are in the distant past. Today, it’s all but impossible to launch a website and expect it to rank for competitive keywords overnight. It takes time websites to rank organically because Google prefers relevant sites that have strong authority.

These days, you’ll have to earn your way to page #1 of Google.

So, to answer the question, it can take between six months to over year.  However, this is largely based on the amount of monthly resources allocated to the SEO campaign and the level of competition.

It may only take a few months to rank well for local search terms like “plumber in Oakville”.  However, it could take years to rank for the term “Plumber” by itself.

Should I Do SEO or Run PPC Ads or Both?

A very commonly asked question is whether businesses should do SEO, PPC, or both. It’s the good old debate between SEO vs. PPC.

Ideally, businesses should maintain a healthy balance of multiple marketing channels so as to avoid being dependant on a single source of traffic (and conversions). But, this presents a challenge for smaller businesses that tend to have more limited resources. Funds aren’t endless.

Nonetheless, it’s essential to balance a long-term SEO strategy with a small but targeted PPC campaign.

Will Social Media Help To Increase My Website Ranking?

There’s a well known misconception that by posting on social media you will increase your website’s ranking on search engines.

Posting to social media will not directly contribute to boosting your SEO ranking. However,  the links that you share across social channels will definitely increase your brand exposure.

Sharing across social media channels have no bearing on your SEO rankings. Yet, when more and more people share your social media content, it will generate social signals that indicates that your posts are proving interesting to your target market.

While social media may not directly increase your rankings in search engines, it indirectly helps build brand awareness.

What PageSpeed Score Should I Aim For?

PageSpeed is the way Google measures your site’s speed, and it’s very important to note that Google PageSpeed has now become a major ranking factor.

But the big question that everyone wants answered, what’s a good PageSpeed to have?

Well, the most honest answer is to get as high a PageSpeed as possible. It can become extremely difficult and expensive to improve your score beyond a certain point. In fact, sometimes you’ll find that your site is already performing better than your competitors.

If your site’s PageSpeed score is 85/100, it may become increasingly difficult, expensive or time-consuming to get just another 10 points. Now, if all of your competitors are below 80/100, then there are most likely more important priorities for you to worry about.

Its always a good idea to run your competitors sites through the Google PageSpeed Insights tool and make your decisions accordingly.

What Is Link Building?

Link building is, in simplest terms, the process of getting other (preferably high ranking) websites to link to yours.

You see, these links, or “backlinks” are one of the top 3 Google ranking factors.  They act as a vote of confidence from one website to another.

Now, not all links are equal. The quality of the links really matter and not all links are of high quality. Concentrate your efforts on earning quality links from websites that are closely related to yours and that have high authority authority.

Does Duplicate Content Harm Your Website’s Rankings?

By now, you’ve probably heard a few horror stories about what duplicate content can do to rankings.  Many beginner SEO specialists are often confused or concerned about what it means. In simplest terms, duplicate content is where content is duplicated between two or more websites or two or more pages in the same website.

By “content” we mean written content, meta descriptions, title tags or H1 tags. Duplicate content can be one of the biggest mistakes that SEO marketers can make.

You should do your best to steer clear of duplicating any kind of content from anywhere. Look out for duplicate sections of copy, paragraphs, descriptions or duplicate H1 tags.
